DESIGN AND GENERATIVE AI - A NEW UNITY

Let’s think about it, a designer’s most important skills have less to do with their ability to use Adobe or Figma. You can teach machines design principles and what’s trending, but you can’t teach computers nuance or empathy or understand your brand visual language (yet). But this will come and will come pretty soon. AI is not so far from a total replacement for professional designers. The question is what designers should do or prepare for the new unity of design and generative Ai.
 
Coolab.ai was originally founded as Urbancoolab in 2018 as an Ai design lab start-up focusing on applied computational creativity. Computational creativity (also known as artificial creativity or creative computation) is a multidisciplinary undertaking that is located at the intersection of the fields of artificial intelligence, cognitive psychology, philosophy, and the arts. Computational creativity using generative computing may be the ultimate moonshot for artificial intelligence.
 
The most fascinating part is compared to a lot of other machine learning techniques, deep learning technology is what's called a ‘generative model,’ meaning that it learns how to mimic the data it's been trained on just as we train designers and artists. If we feed hundreds of thousands of design artifacts, suddenly we have this mathematical system where we can tweak the parameters or the vectors and get brand new creative designs like what it was trained on.
 
Not only is coolab.ai pushing the limits of deep learning, but the team is also defining what creativity means beyond finding novelty, newness, user centricity and visual excitement. It is a work in progress. The goal is to reinvent the creative industry. We don’t know when AI can develop its own sense of creativity, but we are are heading in that direction. 95% of what professional artists and scientists do is exploratory and perhaps the other 5% is truly transformational creativity. A lot of the processes behind creative thinking is still unknown and at some point, machines can start exploring those unknowns.
